Thanks to Heathite we know that A C Buckle (pic 3) started at 119 Spon Street then moved to number 75. It was still at 119 in 1955 but was opposite by 1960.

I've been energized by the photographs to be found on Coventry Digital because they are new to so many of us (and excellent quality). For myself, I'd like to see images linked to a high quality map so I can fix their locations in my head.

Coventry Digital has a map although it's not pin point and not entirely accurate but some of that may be resolved when the meta data is updated?

Helen, a connection between photo and map would have to be seamless or only the very patient or very motivated will bother. There's still the clunk factor with the Coventry Digital site but, like you, I'm hopeful it will be resolved at some point, preferably soon. Your post just gave me the idea that it would be very cool indeed if the Cov Digital photos linked to this forum's relevant threads, a kind of symbiosis.

A very difficult prospect, Primrose, to get any kind of detailed map * with linkable views. Then pictures need to be identified precisely, eg that Swan Street image needed to be orientated using a directory, a map with house numbering and observation of wall ends in the photo that matched the map, plus clues in the slope of the land. I'd be happy if just all the old Gosford Street images reliably turned up if I search for them. * The images would need more than one map. It would be highly unlikely that Coventry Digital would link to a private site. We have to link to them instead.

I know that linking would be way beyond my capabilities! However, in casting around for ways to help this forum be more easily found, I saw some simple versions of this idea on the Historic Coventry Trust Facebook page so I guess my brainwave wasn't as groundbreaking as I thought Lol While Coventry Digital might not link to a private site, it would certainly add another dimension of interest to their images, particularly for those people who come to the images without any prior knowledge.

Hi all I did make many assets available on www.coventryatlas.org, which I created for City of Culture. The assets need GPS co-ordinates embedded into the metadata and sometimes not every asset on Cov Dig has this. Probably the best feature are the maps though. You can compare old with old and old with new. Ben

Hope you like it. I have more maps to add but not the time to add them sadly. Have added a few more images to the slideshow from earlier. Hopefully a few people will come to the session I'm planning at Common Ground in late July to share Arthur Cooper's work. I'll post here when I have a date.

The Board of Health maps from 1851 are a work of art.

Is this search working for all, Ben, this morning? I can log in to Coventry Digital OK but don't get any image search results back.

Yes, that's me. MirrorPix have digitised over 8,000 Arthur Cooper images. I'll use a large screen at FarGo to project and we'll go through them one by one to add metadata. Once that's done, we can add them to Cov Dig. We'll have a few sessions so please come to those you can. I'm likely to do them once a fortnight.
