There are some wonderful clear pictures on there. Thanks for sharing it, bk. There are some lovely pictures of Radford which is one of my interests and lots of the city. Are there particular newspaper dates you are concentrating on?
Radford I'd covered well, a wonderful collection.
I was so disappointed with the Stoke section. Some photos of Stoke are lumped in with Binley Colliery.

Dear all
I had the pleasure today of scanning some seeimgly well-known Coventry images but from 10x8 plates and 8x6 celluloid.
Below is an example - there are four in a gallery for convenience.
Happy to add more details of course! Let me know. Ben

That's not my bike on the left, Ben, but I put mine there on many occasions when visiting that little shop on my way between home and town |

Arthur Petty was the licensee of the Hare and Squirrel from 1926-1929 when the building was demolished.
W F Lane was the licensee of the Royal Vaults in the first Broadgate picture,1896-1898, although a Mrs Emily V Lane was recorded from 1903-1913.
Hertford Street is in the third photo.
The second Cross Cheaping photo is later than the first but I haven't worked out how much later. |

Dear all
I'm delighted to let you know a little more news.
Firstly, another seven boxes of Arthur Cooper negatives have been found. They'll be with us in late March I hope.
Secondly, a whole box of photographs from the Council, taken by a company called Selves, has been found in a loft. Most are to do with post-war redevelopment. I've added a few here with lots (LOTS) more to come.
Third and finally, a lovely family album came to be from a man called Chris Biggs. He acquired it thirty years ago at a jumble sale. The photographs of interest are of the 1932 Coventry Carnival, including the now gone Jesson Street. I'll update here when I've published the files.

Ohhh goodie! Fingers crossed that some of the Selves are pre-war like the one below of the chapel in West Orchard.
The Carnival images are often crackers as they capture odd bits of the city.

Indeed we have pre-war photographs, including what looks like shots of Broadgate that are well known as prints, but now we have the negs. There's an awful lot to get through so I'm hopeful there's lots in there for you Helen.

The carnival ones are super. I'll do my best for tomorrow. I'm about half way through the upload atm.
The whole set is an unknown family album from between 1929 and 1931. They visit Blackpool and the 1929 Scouts Jamboree in Birkenhead as well as lots of Cov pictures.

I must be missing something here - where are the numbers? The first image is Scout Jamboree, Birkenhead, not Lady Herbert's Garden. |

Depends how Helen has her search set up. On the bar with the search box is a small magnifying glass and a filters button. The filters button allows you to make changes to how searches are made.

So...
21 and 28 are Gosford Park, not Gosford Green.
2 and 15 are by the old Calcott building.
25 is a pool, not baths!!!
Wait a moment...

Sorry, I forget about the order.
The slides say Gosford Park but the map says Gosford Green. The photo has Singer Cars on the building, the map has it as motor car repair works. While there's not much of some of the buildings I worked out the locations by bits of chimneys or roof. Not very helpful but it shows where they were at the point that float passed.
Thanks Ben and Chris for these. There are quite a few locations I've never seen before, Including parts of Hertford Street. Usually people photographed the other side of the road or the top end. |
