I have 4 prints by Alan Firth measuring 8x10, depicting The Opera House, Greyfriars Green, Broadgate and Great Butcher Row - are these on the forum already? If not I will put them up in due course thanks.

The fourth picture gives a good indication on how narrow Broadgate was to now. The shops on the left were taken back about four houses after the raid. The canvas shutters above the shops gave it a more shut in and closer warmer feeling especially before the cars became abundant. But in those days even saying hello seemed much easier. In a hardware store mother is looking for something to do with the mangle, the owner stands eager to help, mother is served in the most pleasurable way that an item could be sold. I stand in a corner, gazing at the wonderful things around me.
The columns on the bank gave it an historical feeling, it was impossible for me to be close to one and not want to touch it. After rain beads of rain shone on the cobbles and on the windshield of a tram as it groans to a stop beside me. Coventry seeped into me.
Now, these are my fondest memory's of a city I knew. |

I also have those prints, but more recently, I have purchased a limited edition set of 8 plates called "Waterways by Winter Moonlight" all painted and signed by Alan Firth.
Does anyone have any history of him painting this kind of thing.

Alan painted in gouache, a thick, water-based paint, and specialising in misty, atmospheric scenes.
He was once described by the Inland Waterways Association as "probably Britain's best-known waterways artist."
