I remember The Thistle well. For some unknown reason my mate decided it would be a good place to have a mid-morning drink before he got married at the Registry Office not too long before it closed down. It was like a scene from a set off The Sweeney. Full of smoke - sunbeams marked through browned window glass. About half a dozen drunks one of which was slumped over the pool table along with a couple of what appeared to be 'ladies of the night' doing a bit of OT Oh my

Hi, someone recently (Dreamtime?) was asking about the Navigation Inn on Stoney Stanton Road. I have just seen this picture on Facebook page, True Coventrians, so I nicked it. Thumbs up

Hi Adrian and thank you for the above. Not sure the age of that one but the old one I was interested in was next door to or alongside the canal, at the time - 1962 - by the bridge. Bill & May Toseland were the licensees. I have never seen the one you have found before. I know the old one was demolished and another company built in its place. I can only assume this one was another more recent 'Navi'. Thank you anyway. It's nice to know you boys are out there and on the lookout for us. Cheers

Hi Dreamtime, that picture is of the old Navigation Inn at the side of the canal on Stoney Stanton Road and it was demolished and I think it became Provident offices, but I have been known to be wrong in the past and taken to task but I think I am right this time. lol

Hello Bernie, You are absolutely right, although the building does not look anything like it did in my father's day (as the original Navigation Inn). Lovely old place, plenty of bands played there in the large lounge at the back. They all have to go in the name of 'progress'. Sad Anyway, thank you for those few moments of nostalgia. Cheers

OMG ! But thank you anyway Adrian for the picture. As I remember it, it was all a well fed and beautiful lawn at the back, with dad's beans, pots and toms growing at the side. Happy days were spent out there with our daughter/granddaughter. I am glad my dad cannot see it now. Woe is me Sad but thanks again. Wave

Hi Adrian, You are a STAR x Where on earth did you find that one, must have been taken in about 60/61. I have that one hanging up behind our 'little' bar. Thanks a million, not sure if anyone remembers them now, it seems a lifetime away. They both came out to join us in 1985 but sadly my father passed away a year later. However, we managed to share a lot of very happy memories. Thanks again......{:o) Thumbs up
