Alfred's grave is pictured here. His father was Henry New and his mother Lydia Harding who married in 1894 in South Stoneham registration district, Hampshire, where he and his siblings births were also registered.

Hi Steve, further to my message to you. Your aunt Elsie Ruth Castle was still single on the 1939 register and living with Anne, who I am pretty sure is her mum Anne in Swindon, and she is a railway laundress. She did not marry William Brown until 1944 in Ilkeston. There is a William Brown in Blackpool in 1939 running a hotel. He may be the one discharged from the Army in 1919. As I said in my message my theory would be that Elsie and Alfred were wartime sweethearts but sadly he died in 1917, and she waited a long time before remarrying. I certainly think sending for Alfred's death certificate would help your quest.
