Does anyone have any knowledge of the Worviell or Flavell families of Old Church Road? Shown below is my great grandfather, John Flavell, who was born in the Bell Inn PH. Shown outside no.80 Old Church Road.

The only Flavell family I remember ran a store on the Stoney Stanton Road between Cross Road and the Navigation Inn and they sold anything from coal to fruit and veg. The only one I can remember was Peter Flavell who was a good footballer, he married a girl from Tackford Road who lived opposite my grandparents, her name was Pat.

Isn't the house on the very left now on the corner of Pearson Avenue (which presumably didn't yet exist at that point)? I shall be driving past it on the way to my mum's on Pearson Avenue this afternoon. Sorry, I know nothing of either family as I only lived there from '56!

My father worked at the Flavells shop on Stoney Stanton Road. They used to deliver using a horse drawn "float". My father looked after the horse as well as worked in the shop. He used to talk about Eddie but I am unclear whether as his boss or compatriot

David C. Flavell, at school at St Laurence's C of E School and in his WW1 uniform. David lived at 80 Old Church Rd and was a butcher and joined the Royal Warks Regiment and was killed at the age of 20 years old. He is recorded along with his Brother William Colin [known as Colin] in St Laurence Church, although the memorial is incorrect as Colin fought in the Grenadier Guards. I was named after David.

Foleshill C of E School 1920. My mother, Irene May Lester, of 222 Bell Green Road, is on 2nd row from the back, 5th from the left. Tom Lester on the 1926 street listing is a relative and William Fairbrother was the father-in-law of my grandfather George Lester's first wife Sarah Jayne Fairbrother.

Lewis, I think it was a little more than that. We all had brothers and sisters, we were all taken to school at 3/4 years old to meet them, it was no big deal in those days. At first I thought it was a funeral with flowers on the 2nd cart, but the gent has not raised his cap, that didn't happen in those days. It's more like a May Day parade or such to me. But note the boys school collars, they had gone by 1920 and the boy with the fob watch, now that is a cracker. Love it, thanks.

But it never looked better than on a bright cool day at Harvest festival, with all kinds of vegetables, wheat sheafs, flowers and fruit, it did us proud etc over 59 years ago. We remember it well.
