Hi. Where would 11 London Road be in 1942 and 28 London Road in 1928? I have been trying to locate them on old maps or where they may have been, the bit of information I have is that it ran from Much Park Street (or I'm way out). Thanks xxx Question |

28 London Road
Zoom out to see map. It's not a given that the numbering was the same for your two dates as early numbering wasn't the odds and evens style we now use. However there was such a great number of new houses built in the 25 years prior to 1937 that the small quantity of older buildings might have been renumbered in the modern style. Select older maps to work out where 11 was. My guess is that it was the ruin next to the Salvation Army building. |

My great grandfather died on 11th February 1922. His death certificate states that it was at 11 London Road. This was one of the addresses used by the Workhouse. |

Found this information out, it does seem that by 1942 it was now part of the Gulson Road Hospital. xx

Nice photo of London Road. It reminds me that the houses to the right, but behind the camera, are well below the level of the present London Road. In the late sixties someone restored / rebuilt a mini in the small area in front of a house, but about 5/6 ft below London Road. How it came out was captured in the CET with a crane! Question |

I've finished scanning the few images from the Holmes Family archive from Coventry Archive. Most are rural - you can see the collection in the galleries on Cov Dig.
Here however is one of London Road:

Another good one from Ben and the team. The T&GWU building has gone up but it's rare to see any of those properties on the south side of London Road in that spot. |

Don't think that row of properties on the west side of the northern end of London Road have been captured too often on camera. The end of Paradise Street would be just out of shot to the right.

Whereabouts was the Whitley pumping station reservoir?
I assume it was by the pumping station that is near the London Road. Question |

It was a covered reservoir, recently demolished. News article. Pumping station is bottom left of this map.

Not sure why the chassis has been drawn over, however this good shot off FB identified by our very own Midland Red.
It compares nicely though with this Coventry Digital asset. Both the chassis and the bus are coming out of Gulson Road. I presume the row behind was a blitz casualty.

These are fabulous aren't they, Neil ! Especially love this one, stood at the end of Much Park Street just as it becomes London Road and, as David says in the description, the photographer also happened to be at the location where New Gate - the first gate to be built for the city wall - once stood. |
