Hi,
I'm making a film about Coventry photographer John Blakemore.
From around 1956 -1960 he was manager at the Taylor Brothers Studios in Hillfields but now he has no pictures from that period. I was wondering if anyone here had any pictures of the studio (outside or inside) from any period (it had been there since the 19th century apparently) or any portraits that John made when he was working there.
Thanks
A little more information: the photography studio was at 20 Primrose Hill Street. Some time after 1960 it became the ICA studios. Does anyone remember it from before 1960 or know when it became ICA?
Thanks |

Hi,
I posted a request for a photograph of a studio in Hillfields a couple of months ago. It was for a film about Coventry photographer John Blakemore, whose life's work (including his pictures of Hillfields) have recently been deposited with Birmingham Central Library.
I received a lot of responses to my request and Emmanuel Hemmings was able to give me a picture of Primrose Hill Street from about the right date.
If anyone's interested in Blakemore (who still lives and works in Coventry) then you can see the film here :
Thanks to anyone who replied to my original request and I hope you like the film. In it he mentions that he has no photographs from the period when he worked at the studio and knows nothing about what happened to the studio's pictures after he left. I would still be interested (and I'm sure the Library would be as well) if anyone has any pictures that they think Blakemore took for them in that period.

Greetings from Paul Broderick residing in Arizona.
I lived at 17 Primrose Hill Street and remember the photography studio well. It was run by a Mr Pearce specializing in wedding photography back in the 1950's. My father did a range of electrical repair work for him pertaining to his studio and upgraded the electrical system in his home.
I trust that this helps you somewhat.
