This card was posted in 1929, but I suspect the view is earlier! Anyone able to help with a rough date, please?

I could be wrong but it looks like the older version of Boots there on the corner of the market. Does that help date it? |

This sketch is from a September 1930 CET, it says the site had been cleared for the new building.

Great pic, Anne, cheers.
That must have seemed so modern at the time! Think I may have shared this one before but worth another post on this topic. Possibly the best pic I have of the facelifted decoed Boots - dated 1939, post the IRA bomb. I still wonder if that was a light on top!

That's brilliant, Anne, cheers! I hadn't realised it was a completely new building and always considered it to be just a reface. Great find, thanks (again!) |

Regarding the possible date taken for this photograph of Broadgate, Tram 19 is seen there with its partial vestibule on it and that was fitted in 1914, with a full vestibule (and news stairs!) later being fitted on it in 1927.
So that obviously dates the photo as being taken before 1927, but I have seen an identical postcard elsewhere which has a 1923 date of posting on it and a transport enthusiast/author (the late F.P. Groves) did once quote the photo as being taken in the early 1920's and if anybody would have known that for sure, he definitely would have!
On that note then, I can happily say that the photo must have been taken sometime from 1920-1922/23. |

And another good Dean Nelson shot, pre-Cathedral Lanes. You can see the old ruins uncovered from the post-war Broadgate redevelopment. The old well was a bit further over out of shot.
