An article from the Newspaper archive site, 4th June 1941 says not many of the city's pubs escaped damage and 35 were completely wrecked or burnt. Ye Olde Talbot was one of the first to be rebuilt on a temporary basis.

Neils photo on 421 gives one a clear picture of the progress of the re-birth of the city. Ten years previous the picture would have been smoking rubble, apart for the bank and High St, but here you can see the bridge has been built, the island and Lady Godiva and Broadgate House. But few people looked at plans and models in those days, so the excitement lay in wondering what exactly the finished buildings would look like - even Owens half built, would it be like the old one or better? |

What is the building valiantly hanging on centre left as Owen's rises? Would that have been West Orchard or Market Place?
A link to this image was posted on the West Orchard thread in post #46 showing the same building

A fairly unusual view in that it was only like this for about 10 years from when the bank was completed to that fateful night in '40

My new favourite Broadgate image as it mixes present day with pre-blitz and completely defines the line of Broadgate down to Cross Cheaping with the bank being in-situ. Must be 1930's - my only query is where did they take it from?!? Unless its a very early drone-shot
