Was that the Masseys' tower on Banner Lane pre-demolition? |

Walsgrave Hospital demolition. It's funny, when it was built I was one of the engineers engaged on fitting the new telephone system, never thought I would see its demise . Colin Walton

Hello Philip, I think I know what you mean by "management accounting", when I worked for BT they had a budget for the various groups of vehicles, when the estimated money had gone they got rid, some of the vans were in perfect working order! Total madness. Sorry about the misleading report MR, it does look a bit bleak though. Colin. Colin Walton

I wonder how many forum members or their family were born in this building, seen here in 1985?

Hi,
The only memories I have of Walsgrave Hospital are sad ones as my mother died in there in May 1971 and my father died in there November 30th 1987.

Well done for finding that one - was the building in the photo the Maternity wing? That looks like my first car, an Escort MK2, on the far left! But that was many years before I was driving there on autopilot at half-2 in the morning for the birth of our Steve.... and then a year later Steve could come with us to see his new sister, below....

Perhaps a sensitive subject for some, but a worthy thread considering how many people have had dealings with Walsgrave Hospital. Mr Sky Blue, I am sorry to hear of your sad experiences. There will be both good and bad outcomes from the hospital. My father had a serious operation in Walsgrave in 1969 and the outcome was good in that he lived for a further 11 years. And all the happiness with the newborns. |

Well said, Ken. We had numerous spells over several years with visits to Walsgrave for both of my parents, fortunately with successful outcomes. |

My wife was a nurse on the premature baby unit around 1968. Her claim to fame was that she looked after David Clements (Coventry City footballer) baby!
Both of our children were born there in the 70's - not a particularly pleasant experience. She spent the whole of her first labour in what could only be described as a "broom cupboard"! |

Christmas 2005, my grandson was in the children's ward at Walsgrave, seriously poorly.
Now this may be hard to believe ...... visiting him one afternoon my wife and I travelled up in the lift with a deer. A DEER. antlers and all. Not a huge fully grown deer, but not a small one either - perhaps the size of a small pony. We got out of the lift on the ward where the children's ward was. The deer also got out!!! We walked along the corridor to the ward behind the deer!!!
I was perfectly sober. |

During her pregnancy with my first son my then wife instilled into me the importance being on time when meeting her at the maternity unit for a scan appointment.
For one reason or another I was late, and not knowing where I was going followed a heavily pregnant woman into the hospital. It turned out she was just visiting.
Rightly so, said wife was annoyed to put it mildly, she was a bit of a drama queen though.
Needless to say I wasn't late for second son's scan |
