I was born there. Lloyd McGrath's wife was in the bed next to my mum.

At the risk of being ridiculed by the people that seem to take delight in criticising people who have not had the benefit of a good grammatical education I feel I must run the gauntlet and express my gratitude to the Doctors and Nursing staff at the Walsgrave Hospital. Last week my wife was admitted suffering from breathing difficulties, during the examination she became seriously ill and finding it difficult to breath so the Doctors had no choice but to do an emergency operation to remove her Thyroids , the care she received was second to none, I cannot express enough my thanks for saving my Wife's life, I can see now why the NHS is the best care service in the world, no wonder the NHS is the envy of many countries. Thanks again to the Doctors and nurses

Radford Kid, It is good to hear praise for those who deserve it. We do tend to criticise institutions too easily, and I sometimes/often slip into that mould. I hope your wife has a speedy recovery.

Sad to hear of your wife's recent problems, Colin, but pleased to hear of the outcome from the care and dedication of the medical team. Wishing both you and your wife well over the coming weeks and months, and for a full recovery Wave

I also lost both my parents in Walsgrave so do not remember the place with any liking, but I remember the area before a hospital. There was a water mill and large mill pool where local boys swam, the river then ran through several fields which I used to ride my horse around, it seems so long ago, really makes me feel my age. Sad Sad

Morning all With all the talk of reducing our carbon footprint, I wonder how well the orchestrating management of Coventry UHCW sit, by having moved the one time centrally located hospital & moving it to an outer suburb. Three quarters of the citizens of Coventry, double their carbon footprint, just getting there. At the decision to move period, public consultation meetings were held, some hosted by our local radio. One promise was that every area of the city would have a direct, strategically placed bus service. That was implemented, but as of today's date, only two remain in service. It means that for three quarters of the citizens, a return journey requires four buses, or, two taxis at a minimum cost of £20 for each visit. Car parking costs & issues are legendary. By relocating the hospital to a lower at the time land value area, was an incentive to the developer's, but no one else. Carbon footprint terminology was not even in sight. So every worker, doctor, nurse & patient now contributes to global warming, twice as much as they would have if the hospital had remained centrally located. That is a fact by simple logic.
