Every now and again auction sites other than eBay come up with something rare and wonderful, and so it was recently with the French based site Delcampe. This is the first time I've ever seen a good image of St. Joseph's Convent in Walsgrave Road, opposite Gosford Green. I've also never seen a postcard labelled with backwards 'S's, either! Very strange!

Very novel
The Ns are back to front too. I'm guessing that the writing has to be added to the negative and the person involved has to write the thing back to front... and didn't entirely get it right. |

Oh yes, the 'N's too - I'd missed those! I think you could be right about the negative, I can't think of any other logical reason for such odd text! |

Wonderful to see Rob. My mother's brother died in 1922 with meningitis aged twelve before he could become my uncle Bert. He was educated at St Joseph's Convent, which is a mystery as his parents were Anglicans and attended Stoke St Michael's. |

Another excellent new-to-me postcard here for all you collectors (Rob!). Great new view of the fountain and row behind (Gosford Terrace?). Also the original White Lion pub! |

That seller has a lot of nice images but they're all copies of genuinely old cards, not originals. Worth looking at but not necessarily buying. |

You're right, Helen, and it can be very frustrating coming across those! In fact I've already looked through that seller's "other items", and many of them are of the exact postcards that I've bought from other (genuine) sellers. And I don't just mean the same postcard image - I mean the actual same card itself, which you can tell from the identical blemishes on the card that make each one unique. This means that this fake seller is simply copying the eBay images of other sellers and printing them - a fact virtually verified by their negative feedback remarks from people complaining of low resolution, poor quality photos. I was tempted to contact the seller about it, but decided not to bother because they're never going to admit it, anyway! |

I know I should know but I am wondering when St Joseph's moved to the Kenilworth Road.
I was there for my senior years, 1950-55. Now non-existent, of course. |

You are a gem, MR, thank you for the info.
Happy days for me, only one disappointment. We were promised horse riding to be included together with our education, which never transpired. The only horse I ever saw was made of wood in the gym.
Then the only boys we ever saw were the cheeky King Henry ones hanging from the trees in Crackley Woods. |

Well, you led me to the site, MR.
Just one last word. I always found it amusing when reading the large sign at the school gate, ie St Joseph's Convent, High School for Young Ladies (no males of any age at the time). St Trinians more like. |
