This was on London Road - a new one to me here. Thanks to the Willenhall FB Coventry Local History Group Willenhall House Built in around 1830, this beautiful Victorian residence stood on the corner of St James Lane and London Road. The gate in the wall was roughly where the Marina fish and chip shop is now. It was very imposing and had extensive grounds and an orchard. Originally built by James Wyatt, who managed the Coombe Estate at the time, it was later let out to retired military personnel such as Colonel Battine. Unfortunately, like many Victorian buildings, it fell into ruin during the 1940s and was used for fire practice during World War Two before being demolished to make way for the shops and houses.

I think that old PO property was there right into the 1980's.

I opened this topic to read the new post and spotted the pics of Willenhall shopping centre. My Auntie Lizzie and Uncle Kit lived here in a flat with their daughter, Elizabeth, during the 60's and 70's. My grandma and grandad, John and Kathleen Hastings, lived in a house up on the main road into the new development there at the same time.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone can tell me about a derelict property on the London Road please? It's on the same side as Folly Lane Boys Club, a little further towards town. It's large and could almost be a defunct Chapel. I'd love to know more about it!

Hello Helen Thankyou for your welcome and information. That's the building! Amazing that it was a pumping station. I wish it could be restored. Will be looking up its history. Thankyou once again Anne
