Baz, St Mary Magdalene in Coventry, Wyken. There's a third thought, what if it has a greater significance to Coventry than known. In 1947 and 1949 I paced out the distance from each of these. The Holy Sepulchre to St Mary Magdalene, Jerusalem, north-east direction. Forget the number of paces. Holy Trinity Church to St Mary Magdalene, Coventry, north-east direction, and near enough the same? St Mary Magdalene, Jerusalem, is now a Russian Church, but not at the time of the Crusades. I've been in that one but not the one in Wyken.

Anyone know when the above closed? Anyone know when Chapelfields St Mary Magdalen opened? I believe the one in Wyken was built in or around 1100 AD but the tower at a later date. I also believe it was built, with something to do with the Crusaders, but never found out its real history.

So let's look at a different angle. St George fought in one of the crusades, so did the Earl of Chester and his friend Seagrave - they all lived in Caludon Castle at different times. They needed a church near them so they built one a few yards away and called it St Mary Magdalene? Now if you climb the old Cathedral steps to the battlements and look at the city of Coventry, it's more or less the same height as Mt Carmel and looking down on the city of Haifa in the Holy Land. With the village of Magda (Mary from Magda) in the vicinity of Mt Carmel did that influence our heroes to name Wyken church as such? Me thinks, why not, the sort of thing they did back then?
