Jaguar Statue

Does anybody remember a Jaguar statue that used to be on the side of the Ansty Road. My daughter and I are trying to convince some people raised in Tile Hill. They think we are imaging it. Are we? Does anybody have a photograph?

I remember it, wasn't it on the Wyken Croft junction?

Yes I remember it and matchle55 is right it was on the Wyken Croft junction.

Yes, I remember it well but I'm not sure when (or where) it went.

I remember it, it would be good to see a photo.

Please, please, someone must have one, they've built a house on that corner now.

Used to pass it every Sunday afternoon. Sadly no photo though.

Erm.... a jaguar

Oh sorry Anne, just realised! It was a very large white jaguar cat

Made of stone or could have been white chalk, I think there was an advert on the side wall of the house saying something like 'Jaguar of Coventry'.

It usually had a big arrow pointing the way.

I have reason to remember the Jaguar statue because my father's good friend Bill Smith lived in the house opposite the statue. He ran (along with his brother) the firm of 'Smith and Sons', undertakers. I was always told that their father had operated horse-drawn hearses. Bill was a talented organist. The statue was ringed by metal railings, and difficult to estimate its size, but I would guess it was fifteen to twenty feet in length, and maybe ten or more feet high. The outstretched paw frequently sported the adornment of a carrier bag or similar!!

It was a larger version of this on a house in Balsall Common.
