Copsewood Grange

Hello Colin, Very glad to see you on here. Welcome. Whilst I was still at school, I had a school holiday job at the GEC 1962 & 3. I worked mostly in the transmission & auto exchange lab stores. During one August, I was helping students move in, but most were staying at Coombe Abbey. I made good friends with a Student, Brian Barckway. I think that he went to Canada. Anyone remember Sandra Price - my cousin. She had an office at the Grange - I guess during the late 1960s - and was one of many members of my extended family to work for the GEC Copsewood. As Manager of the England Netball Team, maybe she's a candidate for the Famous Coventrians list.

!! Good News!! Developers have drawn up plans to restore Copsewood Grange and convert the building to residential use. These plans can be viewed tonight (29th Feb) and tomorrow night (1st March) at Copsewood Sports and Social Club between 4:30pm and 8:30pm.

Hi Yes, really good news. I heard it on local news this morning. Just want the charter-house to come up trumps likewise. (sorry gone off subject)

I hope the small lodge house just off the Binley Road to the house gets restored as well,i always try to catch a glimpse of it when i ride by and like the style of it.Anyone got any photos of it ??

The names Brock - Copsewood Brock - I live on site - you cant see me now they have fenced me in - support my cause if you will - look for me on twitter and facebook - I am learning how to use this technology - so please be patient! I just wanted to let you know that I have some cousins in Nuneaton area and they ask me to let you know that JUST because planning permission has been applied for to restore the Grange and Lodge - see link to Coventry planning portal - HERE - or search for FUL/2012/0888 in Google - it does not mean that the developers WILL actually perform that restoration. Over in Nuneaton the developers built the houses and left the listed building! My friends have commented to the council to try and prevent history repeating itself at the Grange There will be a community mtg at the Copsewood Sports Club Thursday 21/6/12 (1900) where Council, Councillors and Residents and Police will gather to here about the Attenuation ponds fiasco (Gardens of Grange Area towards Allard Way. Developers failed to comply with planning consents; Council not really on the ball; Illegal activity to do with my home (the sett) and felling trees in bird nesting season. Please come along to the meeting and try to defend my right to live! Are you aware that the field between the Grange and the Allard Way / Binley Road lights is half brown field site (nearest Grange) and half green belt. The ponds are being built on Green belt and MORE houses (part of phase 2 will be on the brown field part of this site.) The ponds will be more bog than ponds intended to catch rain from the 1 in a 100 years storm. Why cant we have this whole field as public open space? If you feel this way too - despite the online planning stating public consultation ended 6/6/12 - you are STILL able to continue to comment /object to parts of phase 2 for some time to come - probably until mid July when a formal planning hearing meeting will take place. Its been great living at the Grange. I used to have access to the Golf course and yummy food, and water via the tunnel under Allard Way as did my friends Reynard and Bunnikins until the Tunnel was blocked off. Now they are going to fill in the drive way to the tunnel and make it a flat slope from the road to the housing. Life is becoming too hard for me. I hope there are supporters out there for me. The Grange As an 18 year old I left home and moved to Coventry on 2 October 1983 to start work at GEC as a Technician Engineer (apprenticeship). The Grange became my hall of residence for probably 7 or 8 months. It was one of the best times of my life, I made so many amazing friends in that building and I quickly grew up to be a man, what with all the drinking and partying and late nights etc. I do have some internal pics taken at parties inside the building, I will dig them out and post them! It is SO sad to see what has happened to the beautiful building that I called home, but I guess nothing stays the same when 30 years passes. Yes, that's right, next week is the 30th anniversary of the day I arrived and settled down in Room 16 as it was known then, alongside room-mates Rick Myers, David Holt and Jim Hellier. Thanks for this forum, albeit very sad news about the demise of the Grange.

Most of my family worked at the GEC at some time or other (we lived Crescent Avenue end of the GEC) so most of my young childhood revolved around the the GEC leisure facilities and events. As an older teenager, at the end of the 1960s, I used to get invites to parties at Copsewood Grange and always remember having great times there.

me and my father went to the site today and took some photos, they aren't to good but you can see what has happened to it, is anyone interested in seeing the photos?
