On 19th Feb 2025 9:18pm, Mike59 said: Helen, Mike is correct, the stream follows the Canley side of the railway line (which often floods during the winter months and extreme wet periods), passes the rear of Canley Fire Station before eventually feeding into the Canley Brook not far from the Milk Bar. There is another stream that flows at the rear of the current Canley Police Station, under Canley Road between the houses and what was C&E Motors, into the same stream. That one seems to flow from the north, under the former Standard Triumph works, but where the source from there is unclear. It could be the source is around the works area. There is another stream that feeds into Canley Brook, which seems to flow between Beechwood Gardens, Westwood Gardens and Canley Gardens, through the Hearsall Golf Course down to Canley Brook and Canley Ford. It was quite a web of tributaries that flowed into Canley Brook.
As a youngster, that was my favourite "brook jumping" place. Went home many a time wet through !!

I was back in Coventry a few weeks' ago and saw a similar view. We cut through the alley from the Burges and looped around to the top, and have to comment that it felt neither appealing or safe to be honest. Are there plans to have a bar/cafe there?

Apologies William I missed your question here. The last I heard there was a proposal for what's know as the Illingworth building (the last proprietors) - .....to be turned in to a Cafe there. But I'm in touch with Alan Denyer the chap who did the CET (Telegraph) building as an Art space and also the LTB (Litten Tree) and he has been inside and says it's a right mess. As you say it's not a very appealing spot with the rears of the buildings on Trinity Street and Burges and the Landlord of the Coventry Cross told me he finds and has to clear up 'all sorts'(!) every morning. (Don't you love how the Council illustration below removed what was beyond in to a pale greyness!)

Only last week the Coventry Telegraph reported that The Burges was a crime hotspot during November 2025 with 30 crimes reported. Hardly the sort of area that will encourage new businesses. The potential is clearly there with the access to the river, but not with the current state of the whole area.
