Fantastic Anne! I used to love running my finger along it whilst being dragged in to there by my mum! Now I know who did it. The Telegraph had a one too! -

I don't remember it Neil but mum did not shop in Sainsburys, it was a bit out of the way. What happened to it, when was it removed ?

Anne - I think its actually still there. That entrance has been closed for years though. I'm going to go down sometime and try to find it again!

Another new shop to Coventry, that, read between the lines, thought rather than open another branch in its home city that might get clouted, COVENTRY was a safer bet (wasn't there a link between them and Walls sausages?) Two years later had nothing on their shelves, if the docks didn't have it, the shops were bare. Maybe a jar of shrimp paste, or a tin of snoek, that no one liked, everything else sold out within two hours of delivery.

Where the present store is, there was previously what appeared to be a large temporary building. I am talking around 1960 and I wondered whether anyone could remember who had originally operated in this building?

Two pages from directories, 1957 & 1960, you will see on the 1957 page that Timothy Whites is not numbered, don't shoot *me*!

Very good, Heathite. That list really takes me back, my memory of those days is poor but going through that list I can visualize each shop and almost smell their aromas in passing.

Not a charity shop, an e-cigarette shop, a tattoo parlour, a nail bar, a fast food outlet, in sight Thumbs up

My parents bought me a new racing bicycle from Halfords in Trinity Street in April 1957 as I was just starting work and sold it in 1963 when I had my first car.

Was I dreaming but wasn't Sutton & Jones situated next to Alice Middleton's? Probably not directly on Trinity St. though? You would know this Helen, being in ladies lingerie. Lol Lol Lol Lol

Lol I'm no expert on Coventry's shops old or new. I'm ashamed to say I am more of a fan of shopping for tech than undies. While I recognise that there is a need for both, I'm a most reluctant shopper. Lol Lol Lol However, despite being a teetotaller, I am now a semi expert on Coventry's old pubs, so maybe at some point I might make knickers my remit.
