Forum library image I find this so atmospheric only it does look better in sepia! Rob's collection.

On the Trinity boundary line, in the garden of a house in Bayley Lane was found a stone to the memory of a fav horse. Beneath this ground in peace poor Tony lies, from which alas, he ne'er again will rise This stone was raised in memory of his worth By one who rode him almost from his birth John Bunney 1843.

The picture on post 96 shows a good view of overhanging rooms, similar to my post on the Burges topic.

Another of Celia Clare's pics from the 1900's. Looking from Pepper Lane to Bayley Lane and the Cathedral. The Golden Cross, Hay Lane and St Michaels Baptist Church on the right, the old County Hall on the left.

A very unusual angel. More like modern photography with a flare for the dramatic. Thumbs up

I was walking around the Cathedral area on Sunday waiting for Mrs Y who had an optician's appointment. Never really noticed this line of what appears to be original stone - presumably from the Baptist Chapel at the bottom of the Bayley Lane bar building. Was also slightly sad to see they have moved John Parkes - our very own Gladiator - his gravestone has been relocated to further by the edge of Cuckoo Lane for some reason - presumably was in the way of the new stone benches they have added (and now removed a lot of the original railings too!).

Not sure if his gravestone is still readable but John Parkes also has his very own topic here.

A couple of new Bayley Lane crackers have turned up - both looking south towards the junction with Earl Street, one of each side.
