Having read about the punishment dished out at some other named schools, Broad Heath was no different. I was there from 1953 to 1957. One master named Mr Hunt dished out the cane quite often. One day he was giving the cane to one boy who kept taking his hand away, so Mr Hunt said he was going to double the punishment, so the boy ran out of the classroom, down the stairs and home. A short time later the boy came back to the class with his mother who in turn tried to land one on the teacher. All hell broke out. One of my uncles went to Broad Street as it was called then, in the early 1930's, and he told me about a certain boy who always pretended to faint to get out of lessons. Then one day in the woodwork class he again pretended to faint but the woodwork master was having none of it and picked up a fire bucket full of water and threw over him. He never fainted again. How times have changed.

Mr Blue Sky. Did you go to Red Lane School before Broad Heath?

Sorry NormK, my previous schools were Paradise Street, Edgewick and then Courthouse Green.

It's ok, the same thing happened to me at Red Lane and my old lady wouldn't send me to school for ages. Happy days!

Hello, is there anyone on here that went to Broad Heath between 1952 and 1956? And possibly remember me? Thanks, Bob

I was there at that time Bob, sorry but your name doesn't ring any bells.
