Is there no end to the demolition of Coventry's historic buildings!
On a more serious note, I'm glad I started plotting Coventry's old centre when I did because I used the newer buildings to pinpoint the ones that had been destroyed years ago. At times I've revisited an area on Google, only to find the 'new' building demolished. You never know, there might be a point where someone uses a picture of something as mundane as a public loo to solve a problem. |

Maybe it should have had listed status Helen (grade 2* or above of course, lol) .
Yes, every little helps - locating the exact location of old buildings (like the St. Mary's Priory Parliament House) is quite difficult to do without any consistent points to work off (which in Coventry can be quite difficult due to WW2 bombing), perhaps the toilets might be of interest to some future Historian (although I doubt it ).
Don't know what they are planning to do with the space, they seem to have put knee rail fencing around it for some reason. Friends of Quinton Pool have said that the toilet block will be replaced by something (but we don't know what yet).

Most days I cycle past Quinton Pool on my way to work. I noticed today that with the ground being saturated and the heavy overnight rain it was flooded (which I don't recall seeing before) because the drain couldn't cope with the water flow and the excess water was running down to the sheltered housing complex, hopefully not causing too much damage |

Was looking at some old photographs of Daventry Road shops (with a magnifying glass) and the one posted on the Coventry Telegraph website a few days ago. Saw a few old shop names to add to the list:
A.W. Harley - Footwear.
National Westminster Bank.
Coventry Economic Bank.
Roy Harper Ltd - Fruit & Veg.
Cheylesmore Fruit Co. Ltd.
'Pearks' shop (?).
R.J. Pennycook - Jewellers and watch repairers.
Holloway - Chemist (?).
Carpet shop (where Paws pet shop is now).
Also found this referring to Sheila's Kitchen. |

Holloway was a chemist. They also used to offer homeopathic treatment. I think that when they closed she (Deirdre Holloway?) opened up a homeopathic practise somewhere else In Coventry, possibly near the station but I could be wrong. There was also a television shop certainly up to the mid-eighties that used to sell Bang and Olufsen TVs (can't remember the name though). |

There is, or was, a couple of charity shops in Daventry Rd, I always got my books from there.
As my wife is a keen aquarist we frequently visited the aquarium shop but it has been closed for some time so never get to Daventry Rd anymore. Perhaps it has reopened, does anyone know? Just old and knackered

Hi Norman I assume you mean the shop that was up near the Open Arms. I think it was called Coventry Aquatics and had moved from Whoberley. They used to sell reptiles as well. It closed overnight in 2012 and I believe money was owed to suppliers. It has now been completely emptied and looks like it might be about to be used again |

Walking past Quinton Pool this morning I couldn't resist taking this.
I stopped to watch for a while and noticed here were also some large fish leaping so all seems well in spite of all the rain lately |

You're welcome Dreamtime . There are also Moorhens and Ducks with young as well as the dreaded Canada Geese. The Swans have still got a nearly fully grown swan from last year with them as it was injured, so we were not sure if they were going to lay eggs this year. I'll try to get some more photos as they grow. |

Progress report on the swans. We're down to five cygnets (don't know what happened to the other one). The rest seem to be thriving and are definitely at the ugly duckling stage
