Coventry Schools Choir 1984(ish)

Back in 1984 (ish) my friends and I were part of the Coventry Schools Choir, head office Dover Street we think. We did a number of performances at the Apollo in Hales Street and at Warwick Arts Centre, one of which was 'Merlin'. Im trying to get some information or old photos from then and wondered whether anyone could help or point me in the right direction? Thanks

My wife was in a Merlin performance around that time as part of Coventry schools choir. Not sure whether it was definitely '84 or not but somewhere around we have a video of the performance that we had transferred to DVD some time ago. Unfortunately it's hidden somewhere in storage at the moment until we move house again in the summer.

Hi stevearcher - I took a bit of a guess at the year but remember it was around that time. Does your wife remember any other information? I've been searching for photos on the internet as I remember it being in the paper, but I can't seem to find anything.

She thinks it was either '84 or '85 and remembers it being conducted by Mr Chappell (sp?). She was at Whitmore Park school at the time. Unfortunately with the DVD being buried somewhere in the storage unit, it's not easy to get hold of otherwise I could sort a copy out for you.

Yes that's the man!! I was at Christ the King School. Thank you for your offer, I completely understand. I just wanted to see if anyone else remembered so I'll carry on with my search for photos!

There's another thread on the Forum about the choir. In the 1970s, Brian Chappell conducted the brass band and occasionally stepped in to conduct the choir, which was led by Alan Biddle. We rehearsed in Percy Street.

I was in the choir too, from Whitmore Park also. Would be interested to see the DVD
