On 9th Apr 2016 9:02am, Heathite said (on another thread): Hi. In the 1939 directory there are two contenders for the name Edmunds. The first and most probable is William James Edmund, number 57 Coronation Road. The second is Samuel Leslie Edmond, number 70.
Just been looking at my family history as a group of them lived in Coronation Road My aunt Clara Caroline Palmer lived at number 86 in 1909 and then moved into number 59 with her aunt Caroline Lilly Horton (Austin) although living as married she was actually a widow. Clara's brothers William, Samuel and Henry (my dad) lived there at various times during and after WW1 while all working at Courtaulds. In 1922 Clara married George Edmund and they had 2 children Lily Caroline 1923-2000 and George 1927-1998. George had several siblings one being William James and another Leslie Samuel, which appear to be the 2 names you found in the register. They are in the 1911 census living at number 57. I have a death record for George of 1962, but was told that Clara took her own life in 1955. I have not verified this, but would like to, any suggestions ?

Hi, Little Nut, I talked to my mother yesterday about your post. My family lived in Coronation Road for 90 years so we have a lot of memories and stories about the street. Amazingly I found we have a couple of close connections (not familial) with your relatives. Firstly, Mum knew Clara well as Clara and George Sr. lived at 46 King Edward Road which backed on to our house. Mum liked her very much indeed. Mum is positive that Clara did not take her own life but died of cancer. In fact, Mum went to visit her in Gulson Hospital with Clara's daughter Lil who also lived in King Edward Road a few houses down from her parents. However, what Mum understands is that Clara was bombed out of her home in Craners Road during the war and this did affect her nerves badly but by the time Mum first met her in 1948 Clara was absolutely fine. The death certificate would tell you for sure, I guess, Secondly, Les Edmonds was killed in the April 1941 Blitz by the same bomb that killed my great-uncle, James Hunt, in Coronation Road. His widow, Beatie, came over to our house afterwards to grieve with my great-grandma. Mum believes Les and Beatie had a child, a son, but Beatie had moved away before 1948. Below is the entry from the list of Blitz victims at familyresearcher.co.uk. Samuel Leslie Edmonds Born 07/10/1903 at Coventry. Son of James Edmonds and Sarah. Husband of Beatrice Doris Wilson. Resided 70 Coronation Road. Employed Morris Motors Limited. Killed in the April Raids 09/04/1941 Aged 37 at Coronation Road. Buried in the Communal Grave at London Road, Cemetery, Coventry.
