I am surprised that no one has commented on this development yet.

I've seen this too also seen the buildings design which I personally do not like at all modern and cold looking but to some would jump at the chance, I've seen the others planned the same in other parts of this City too. What a great way of secluding the elderly from society as a whole the idea reminds me of concentration. As a carer in the past what do the elderly love more than anything is company not shut away in high rise apartments which in the past has proven this. If the lift goes what then. Also easy pickings to be mugged.

Looks good to me, an excellent facility, clean modern lines providing options for an ageing population, and also good to see use of what is currently derelict land Good for gricers if overlooking the Nuneaton line too!

Mmmm, I would be very interested in hearing Flapdoodle's views on this subject!

With elderly not being able to move fast with the decline of our fire brigade services being cut right down in the case of a fire and lifts would stop would you happy and at ease putting your mum or dad in one.

The theory in most of these care places now seems to be that the elderly stay where they are in their flats behind a fire door. My mum was in sheltered accommodation with a lady in a wheelchair on the first floor. I don't think I would care to be in any of these buildings with a fire outside my door. It was no better when she moved to a care home in a Victorian building. The fire drill there was a shute to be put out of the window. She was so frail that every bone in her body would have broken on the way down. I also think that this building is so big anyone with memory problems will be wandering round because they don't know which is their flat! Apparently the plan is to have different surfaces on the wall of each floor.

Exactly Anne and it's not the fire that kills it's the smoke and oap's like you say with loss of memory forget when cooking too. I am beginning to wonder about who it is who comes up with these ideas. Probably the same kind who thought it great to build maisonettes on top of flats with lots of concrete steps to climb for access to the maisonettes in the 60s/70s then placing young couples with babies and young children in them having to get one baby in a large pram as there was no other kind back then with shopping and a toddler of 2 years up those stairwells with no help as the husbands were at work. So the shopping had to be left bottom of the stairs hoping dogs or thieves didn't take it while toddler of 2 climbs up in front of the mother bumping pulling a large pram with baby inside up those concrete stairs. Then washing day to take your washing down to hang out then pull it all up on the line and winding and tying it to the high balcony having to take your baby and toddler with you then the designer gets an award for this. like most designers no doubt while they and their close families don't live in them or anything like them.

I'm not the 'target' audience. I don't mind the building, looks quite nice. Would I want to live there if I was over 55? Absolutely not.

I don't think the previous poster fully understands this concept This is a fully managed and staffed site in which residents have their own properties Facilities and care are listed on the home page It's private ownership within a location supported by managers and staff to provide the relevant levels of care and support as required, whilst providing a community feel with co-residents of similar circumstances My late mother lived in a small retirement home (not a care-home) where she had her own flat, shared communal areas in which she made many new friends, whilst receiving invaluable support and housekeeping to improve her lifestyle Whilst this new concept is on a much larger basis, and includes so any more features and facilities, the idea is very similar to that which my mother enjoyed, which put our minds at rest as we lived over 150 miles away at the time The comments regarding the lift being out of order relays ignorance of this type of project, as there will be a number of lifts in a building of this size, and as said above, the property will be managed and staffed So, yes, I would have been very happy for my elderly parents to live here - or should I say, as an OAP myself, I would be very happy to be there, with company, facilities and support all around

When a fire occurs all lifts are out of use not to be used in a fire this is well known, as if as like in my home there are isolators which are shut off in a fire which renders my lights any electrical appliances dead not working, so how would there be a safe evacuation with the elderly with so many floors if a fire got out of hand. I know enough staff is never employed to cope especially if it's private they only care about profit and I know and witnessed some staff don't care like they should for the elderly or sick it's become to a lot just a job even though they are qualified. You will find out yourself soon enough of what I know goes on then you can give your answer to me then. Shame I couldn't up load footage what I took. Put it this way I will die in a field first. They said the Titanic would never sink but it did.

I'll amend my previous comment - you clearly do not understand the concept Re your continued comments about lifts and fires - how on earth have millions of multi-storey office blocks, hotels and residences etc been constructed all around the world if evacuation from such buildings is such a risk? I have worked in the care industry, I have dealt personally with senior citizens in and, as I said previously, seen my late mother live in managed accommodation - and I have nothing but praise for the work the vast majority do - yes, there are isolated occurrences, which shouldn't occur and which the media jump upon to highlight - but hundreds of thousands enjoy a safe retirement and old age in supported living situations, and this project is a step forward for its future residents

So has my daughter and son in law worked in the care industry for years. Also most of my family work in the hospital and have done for years As for offices , hotels and residence mainly these are able bodied people. that's all I've got to say on this subject.

Sorry if I put you on the spot Flapdoodle, but you usually have a lot of common sense with your views on such matters. I wouldn't live in a high rise like that if they paid me!!!!! It's a risk walking out alone these days let alone living in a fire trap.
