Power Pak Moped

I've just joined in the hope of throwing some light on the manufacturing source of the Power Pak bicycle engine. The sales office was in London, but major warranty repairs were to be sent to Longford Works, Black Horse Road, Longford, Coventry. The people behind all of this are lost in the fog of history, and I wondered if there were anyone who had any memories of the Longford Works. This link is all the information I have. Ludwig

Hi As an owner and rider of a Power Pak PHP 777 registered in Coventry, I did extensive research on this issue. Found zilch, there was a proposal to build a Moped Model which was planned for Coventry but never happened. The engineering facility in Black Horse Road in the 1950's was Alfred Herbert Ltd, Maybe just maybe they had offered their extensive engineering and machining capabilities.

I well remember the original Power Pak which was a unit fixed to the back of a standard pushbike, above the back wheel. It could be dropped onto the wheel or lifted off. I had one of the `opposition`, a Cyclemaster which came as a complete rear wheel with a small engine (25cc or 32cc) built into the middle. From memory they were both sold, locally, by Frettons in Smithford Way (later Bishop Street). I have some old m/cycle mags which may include them and will have a look for them in due course.

Wasn't there also a B.S.A. version known as "The Winged Wheel"?
