I only went into this pub once, for a friend's stag do - that was several decades ago. It's in rather a sorry state now.
I viewed the place before the last auction. Somebody had spent a bit on it. There were still builders' materials and tools, and every room had had the old plaster stripped off the brickwork, ready for re-plastering. The price was too high, and I was told someone was interested in making an offer.
On 12-5-16, it was unsold at auction. The next auction was on 14-7-16. It was sold prior to auction for an undisclosed sum.
If I recall correctly, Loveitt's had it down as flats or HMO, for 12 people, most likely students. |

An update. It was described as a "unique investment opportunity". Planning permission was granted for conversion to 12 room HMO, plus permission was also granted for ground floor wholesale use, with an extension to the side, and multiple residential occupancy above. HMO use provides for 12 rooms (10 of which with ensuite). Potential gross rental income was estimated at circa £70,000 (subject to market conditions - a pinch of salt is always required here), giving a circa 11% yield p.a. (subject to conversion costs).
With a convenient bus route, shops and local amenities nearby, the property will be suited to professional and student rentals alike, as the area is very popular for renting and with the demand of both Coventry and Warwick Universities, student accommodation is very sought after.
Planning permission was granted on 12/10/2015 for "Change of use from Public House to 12 bedroom house of multiple occupation". In addition, planning permission was granted on 16/12/14 for "Change of use from Public House to wholesalers (Use Class B8) on ground floor with single storey side extension and flat in multiple occupation on first and second floors". |

PS Whilst viewing, I took a few photos. I'll post one of the dilapidated interior, if I can get the upload software to work. |

I thought Neilsyard might be interested in this from a 1941 Midland Daily Telegraph
Mr James Stringer who is the father of Mr Frank Stringer (Chairman of Coventry City Football Club) celebrates his 96th birthday. Mr Stringer was born at The Old Turks Head in Silver Street which his father was licensee. This house later became known as the Old Tramway but has more recently reverted to its original name |

Hi, anyone got any photos or memories of the Jules Verne pub? It was the first themed pub I ever went into in Grayswood Avenue in the early 70s, the pub was divided into various bars. Around the World in 80 days was one I can recall, Pukka Sahib was another. |

Oh, gosh that takes me back a few years (too many to mention) We had our first house in Lincroft Crescent when we were first married so that was our local watering hole.
It had a bowls strip on the back lawn in its early days and it was the Three Spires when we were there - 1961 to 74. It must have been The Jules Verne when we left, revamped with different eateries around the world, that figures. Thanks for the memories MR. I have seen a few photos pop up. It looks a nice place situated on the corner (well it did, don't know about these days). |

I spent a lot of time in the 'Spires' in the 80's. My parents lived in Allesley and at that time the same crowd went to the same pubs on different nights of every week.
Most Fri, Sat and Sundays I at least started in there. Always remember getting back to Cov after the '87 final and the landlord Ray dancing on his own pool tables! |

I used the Verne for a while in the early seventies. I'd just moved into Craven Street and my neighbours used it because the clientele was younger than the local pubs. A lot of the lads in Whoberley, who were around my age - early 20's - used it. The atmosphere was always nice and friendly and we often used it as a meeting point before heading into town. |
