Miss Kenderdine's School, Earlsdon

I recently mentioned this school, in another topic title "Doctors and Surgeons" I found one previous reference to this school in this forum from Mike H. Anyone else have memories of this school. I have taken information found from various articles from the Evening Telegraph to form an introduction. The Kenderdine School in Earlsdon Avenue South, Earlsdon, was founded in 1936 based on the teachings of Italian educationalist Maria Montessori. The school was set up in 1936 by Florence Kenderdine in a small Tile Hill terrace before moving to Berkswell Grange to escape the Second World War air raids. The school settled at 68 Earlsdon Road South in the mid 1940s. The school eventually closed in 2010. I attended between the ages of three to seven which would be around 1957 to 1961ish. I am still in touch with a fellow pupil, and know of few others. Our mothers remained lifetime friends. Miss Kenderdine was also a prominent member of the Round Table. I also remember going to summer camps at Tekels Park near Camberley.

We lived next door to Patricia Winstanley when we lived in Berkswell who was the head there during its later years.

Regarding the comments of Dillotford, I also attended the school at number 68 between from about 1957 to 1959, but remained in contact for many years through the RT camps at Tekels Park. Miss Kenderdine also was very involved with the Theosophical Society and I attended discussion groups both at Tekels Park and number 68 into the 1970's. Mrs Phillipa Hartley ran the school after Miss Kenderdine died with the help of Mrs Pat Hancox (not sure if this is the correct spelling). Miss Kenderdine had an interesting way of dealing with disruption in the classroom and as a result I remember spending quite a few times cooling off at the end of a large table in the hallway by the front door or sitting on the top stair although I don't recall the reason for these disciplinary actions!
