My father, Raymond Steane, was General Secretary of the Coventry Motor Cycle Club in 1939 - according to the Coventry Evening Telegraph of 11th December 1939. The newspaper article was about the Club Dinner held at the Geisha Cafe the previous Saturday. Here is a photo of an event - I assume one concerning the club though I have no way of telling. Could it be the one referred to in the newspaper? My father is standing at the back on the right.

Again according to the Coventry Evening Telegraph the club members used to go on holidays together, including one to the Lake District. Herewith a photo of a couple of members and looking at their gear it looks like they were on a trip. Raymond Steane (my father) is second from the left. I've no idea what type of motobikes they are riding.

That was common at one time in Coventry. For example people living in Bond Street usually holidayed in Kent while people in Craven Street would often go to Rhyl. It was weird travelling a hundred miles or more only to find yourself holidaying with the people who lived next door!
