However, it shows Tocil Farm (I think - it's not named) between Tocil Wood and the crossroads, but some way from the crossroads, and about 15 - 20 feet below the elevation of the actual crossroads, which is at 330 feet above sea level. There is no evidence of the gibbet at all. The crossroads, however, are shown as having concave corners, so as to form a ring. (Almost as if there were a traffic island without the island, if you see what I mean) I might be wrong, but that suggests to me that the gibbet was in the centre of the crossroads....
I think this is an interesting idea. As earlier someone stated that the Lord said it/they should be placed ON the spot of the murder, which would be the road, it gives it more credence, and in the centre of the road would make it visible and therefore a deterrent for quite a distance. The placing of trees around it could well be set slightly back so as not to cover the road (or its grisly deterrent) too much and therefore be on the outside edges of this 'island'

Cannot see any Gibbet marked on anything on oldmapsonline but Tocil House Farm (some 18th century maps refer to it as Tosil) appears to have been right on where the Uni is now - in fact further north-west towards Kirby Corner. Obviously Tocil Wood and Tocil Croft (a nearby road) are named after.

Hi Graham, I am not sure if this will help, I have been looking into this myself as I live in Gibbet Hill. I read that someone has written that Lord Leigh ordered to have a circle of trees planted around the gibbets. In Wainbody Woods - quite deep inside, near the green metal fencing along the railway track, there is a perfect circle of tree stumps that have been there for as long as I can remember. I was also told the road to Coventry market ran through Wainbody Woods. I have also been told that the farm at the bottom of Stoneleigh Road still has some of the original gibbets although this may not be true. I could be completely wrong, but it may be worth having a look and see what you think? I have also found this.

Not sure if this helps, according to it the gibbet was on Stoneleigh Common. I think the farm you mentioned belonged to Rob whose father owned all that land on Stoneleigh Rd. I shall ask my sister to ask Rob as he sold the farm.

It states on my link (foul deeds) above, my last link, that Lord Leigh gave permission for a gibbet to be built on Stoneleigh Common, above Wenbury Woods next to the 3 mile stone.
