If you look at Speed's map, you see a lane heading to the east, opposite New Street. That was called Corpus Christi. It looks like there could have been a line from Broadgate all the way to the end of this, probably longer, lane.

This is a rare capture of that section at the southern end of Cox Street before it was cleared for the Poly.

Great pictures Neil. I am really fascinated by the advertising hoardings in them. Vernons Pools, my mum and dad always preferred Littlewoods because of the bigger payouts!

Not the clearest image but to follow the one above - showing the ground cleared including that corner of Cox Street and Jordan Well where The Acorn pub stood (so this must be after 1961) - all ready for the construction of the James Starley building (which has in itself now gone as well!)

Hi Neil, great pic. What are those long narrow structures in front of the building site?

Aren't they the roof of the building you can see better in the previous picture?

It looks like they are something to do with the strange building in the previous picture. Is it the roof of that building ?

Yes not sure what the structure actually was but seems it was part of the new build for the Lanch/Starley Building -

Looks like the bus had been in an RTC..... Debris on the road in front, engine hood and front panel look mangled and driver standing on the kerb...

Last night we watched one of the shorts on Talking Pictures that we had recorded. It was some very old black and white silent films about silly car stunts. The interesting thing was at the start of the film it said "Watsonian film Library Coventry. The only mention I can find of it is an advert in a 1948 publication of Kinomatagraph magazine which gives the address as Film House Cox Street. Just out of interest has anyone ever heard of it?
