I really love this picture; it provides context for the few remaining old buildings in the city and how they were once surrounded. Similarly, the various pictures of Cook Street Gate highlight how isolated they look now.

Great photo. Is there a date on it at all and is there a link to the original CD source please? William
Hi William. That pic came from a collection from a chap called James Cooper. His father found them in a house clearance he did many years ago. We met up with James when they came to light at The Herbert in the hope he might allow them to be shared via Coventry Digital but he has retained them all currently - possibly hoping to publish himself (though allowed them to be shared here). I think we collectively agreed they were all dated from between 1926 and 1931. They were certainly the most exciting undiscovered photographic 'Album' I'd seen for some time.

Thanks Neil - that's really useful. Hopefully they will all find the light of day at some point.

This picture was recently posted on Facebook, claiming to be looking up Pepper Lane, however, it is clearly pre-war and Wingrave's shop is not in the corner.
