Does anyone have any information or images of the Rex Motorcycle Factory that was in Osborne Road, Earlsdon? The site is now home to Aylesdene Court Flats and I know they also produced cars before WWI.

I was looking into this a few years ago, and it appears the company became 'Rex-Acme' but couldn't find any images of the Earlsdon factory. The Rex Company was I think on the old Rolls Royce/Parkside area ,but I stand to be corrected. Update: It appears Rex Motor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. was also Osborne Road, Earlsdon at some point.

Well yes, there's a picture with a distant view of its frontage on page 23 of The Coventry We Have Lost: Earlsdon & Chapelfields Explored. Smile

I was born in Newcombe Road and now live back in Earlsdon - I'm sure I recall there being some Factory buildings still being there before the flats went up in the 80's. Just cannot find any images. I understand Rex moved to Earlsdon in 1900.

The picture in the above mentioned book is dated 1907. The plot was bought by the Allard Cycle Co. circa 1893. Allard was then taken over by a Birmingham company which began manufacture of Rex motorcycles at the premises in Osborne Road. I don't know if Allard manufactured anything there themselves.

There is lots of information on Allard, Rex and Rex-Acme in the book 'Coventry's Motorcycle Heritage' by Damien Kimberley.

Thanks to this website - just found an image that I'd been long looking for - 1907 Rex factory can be seen in the distance on the left in Osborne Road.
