Very close Thumbs up but I don't think it's the right one. The door lintel has only half a brick between it and the next one to the left in the photo, while 120 has a whole brick. Also the step onto the path is deeper, although the path heights might have been altered. Of course we may be looking for a building that may no longer exist. There are a lot of newer buildings in the area, so a certain number of the original buildings may have been replaced.

Hello, The Destination blind on the six wheeler, shows No3, Stoke Alermoor. Marlborough Rd, was the route of the No3, at one time, as it picked up from the former Hillman factory at the Hood St end of Lower Ford St, then the Humber offices (that became Lloyds bank) in Gosford Green, before turning right into Marlborough Rd, off Ball Hill. The description "Shadow Factory" at this point in time was Humber Rd. The Ryton plant was the Shadow Factory during the second world war. The current route of the No3 involving Charter Ave, started as early as 1931, so whether a workers special was retained using the original route I cannot find info. Certainly, the route via Marlborough Rd, had been abandoned by 1937. There are no pictures that I can find of the six wheelers after 1933. A bit of confusion, because the new transport manager stated that in September 1935, the then current terminus of the No3 would be extended from Stoke Green, to Stoke Aldermoor. There's a bit of contradiction in the source's of info.

Judging by the Lintels, it could easily be the Road I was born in, Kirby Road, Earlsdon, or one of the surrounding streets looking at 'Google' streetview.

Hello, Quite apart from the forensic bus details, we have three printed details in the newspaper. 1. Marlborough Rd. 2. Address No55. 3. Mr. & Mrs. Fernyhough. If those details can be confirmed, that will settle the location.

But Marlborough road the door lintels are the same size as the windows. The picture shows that the family door has a smaller one.

I don't think any of the places we've looked at so far are the spot. Something is wrong about each location. Finding the right lintels is just step one. The oddity is that the different blocks are scattered around the area and not necessarily a whole road. It makes me wonder if there were different building companies or the scheme was planned to have variety.

I still think that the location can't be far from Clements Street given that the photographer would have had to transport his heavy camera and tripod to the scene. No pocket cameras in those days. My bet is still on Shakespeare Street because the lintels are exactly correct. As Helen says, there is every possibility that the house in the picture was removed by Mr Hitler or by subsequent redevelopment.

According to the 1906 map, they hadn't started on anything east of Swan Lane, including Clements Street. They were still developing the most northerly area west of Swan Lane, including King Edward Road. You can see that they were leaving gaps between blocks for a different type of block. Here is another similar but not quite right block on King Edward Road. Again the gap between door lintels is a full brick not a half.

Hello, Has anyone access to historic names & addresses as reported in the newspaper report? That will surely confirm the newspaper report details. As to whether that ties up with the original photo query???

I don't see why the newspaper details would be wrong. The roads have a mixture of styles, including bays and others with no front garden at all. I think that finding the right property might be very, very difficult. Not only are there missing properties, there are modern mods like porches.

Stoke Portrait Co were taking pictures for Coventry Graphic in 1912 and 1913. Mostly of sports teams and other groups including army. There is one of Wellington Street Juniors. Not of much help but roughly dates the picture.

The date of the accident was Wednesday 1st March 1939.
