Anyone any idea where this might have been taken? And yes, that's Mr Snape as in the solicitors Big grin I wondered if it might be on the Barracks grounds?

I haven't checked yet but my gut instinct is that it is the Barracks, looking east. Yes, it is the back of Hertford Street. Quite a rare view. Neil, I could be wrong but I think you win this year's image hunter of the year. Thumbs up

Hi All, Can anyone tell me what the initials 'F.W. Major' and 'M.M. Orr' mean in this photograph. Many thanks, Luke. Thumbs up

MM of course could be Military Medal but I doubt it as all Honours/Awards/Accreditations come after the name. I agree with Annewiggy in that it is more likely the person's initials. Unless you can throw more light on it Luke

Hi Annewiggy & Wearethemods, Thank you both for your posts. Talk about me not being able to see the wood for the trees, I'm not related to the people in the photograph so I thought F.W. Major was some sort of rank and M.M. ORR some sort of medal/ citation. I think you're right - they do look like names (the words also seem to be in two columns beneath each person). I looked on ancestry for potential leads - and found a marriage between Margaret M. Major and William H. Orr in 1939 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Therefore (if it's the right person) I'm imagining that the lady and gentleman in the photograph may be father and daughter. Thanks for your help and a fresh pair of eyes Thumbs up Luke. Smile
