Dear forum members, my name is Mark Potts and I have been compiling a book for the past two years on twin brothers from Crewe in Cheshire who fell in WW1 (aboard HMS Formidable). I am trying to locate relatives or distant relatives of the family, to see if anymore photographs exist. Their father was a Benjamin Villiers born in 1837 in the Hill Fields district to parents John and Hannah Villiers. They resided in Weston Street and Gosford Street in Coventry. He was one of 10 children and married a Lucy Newbold in 1861 after gaining an apprenticeship as a watchmaker and repairer. His wife dies and he marries again (Emma Emelia Wickes). Altogether he fathers 5 children - Elizabeth May, Benjamin Ernest, Sarah, Emma and Annie. However he runs away to Crewe around 1880 and marries Isabelina Dean and they have 2 sons - Henri and John. He also adds the name "Russell" to his surname and the family is known in Crewe as the Villiers Russell family. In 1990 the family grave was restored and 9 great cousins of the twins attended the ceremony. If any of this rings a bell can you please contact me via the contact button. Thank you very much, Mark.

Benjamin Ernest Villiers died in Dec 1947 aged 78 years. There is a Lizzie Villiers who died in March 1959 aged 88. Both are in buried in the same plot in London Road Cemetery.

Emma Amelia Villiers, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Wickes, died March 3rd 1925 aged 83 years and is also buried in London Road Cemetery in a family plot along with her parents and brother - this plot has a headstone. (sorry, didn't know if you already have this info)

Tony thanks ever so much. Hopefully the gravestone is readable as this lady was Benjamin's second wife - the one he left for a life in Crewe. Best wishes and thanks again. Mark

Hi Tony. I found a link to the London Road Cemetery in Coventry but the grave to either Wickes or Villiers doesn't appear. Have I got the right cemetery, please? Mark.

Hi Mark, you have the right cemetery (and just checked, the grave is in the "north" side) but I'm afraid I have no idea why it isn't listed. Please bear in mind that this was just someone taking photos of headstones whilst they researched their own family history, so may simply have missed the one you are looking for. Am emailing you a Google map view of the area.

Cheers Tony, just re-read his opening statement that he hasn't actually taken all of the graves, so hopefully it is still there. Cheers, Mark.
