Thanks Norman. That was a very sad day both for his parents and me and a belated thanks for trying, Milly rules

According to the Coventry Telegraph, the two remaining Webster's brickworks chimneys are due to be demolished next Sunday (15th May) sometime between 8am and noon. The article says they were 210ft and just under 100ft tall.

I have had the misfortune of working by the big stack, it's always very cold and windy and I have been told its a vortex and is common around tall structures. So come Sunday it's payback time. Milly rules

The demolition of the two chimneys didn't happen today. It appears the council has issued a stop notice on it, for what reason I don't know. Cliff, you may get to see it after all Milly rules

'The reason for serving this notice is to ensure the potential retention or part retention of the Hoffman kiln and chimney as part of the redevelopment of the site'
So says the Council's stop notice pinned to the barriers. Not sure how it can be retained given the serious cracks in the structure, they have already drilled the explosive holes. |

mn757. We must have missed each other this morning, in fact was that you talking to the Telegraph guy? We ought to have a badge so we can recognize each other. Back to the notice, I thought the Hoffman Kiln had already gone? Milly rules

Yes that was me, did we speak? I spoke to a gentleman whose wife's grandfather had helped build the chimney. I don't know about the kiln, I found the site notice somewhat ambiguous |

I had a chat with the Telegraph guy 30 minutes before you, and had gone for a stroll along the canal. Had I known you were a member of HCF I would certainly have stopped for a chat. Ambiguous is the correct word, it's all gobbledygook to me. I only read the first one and that was enough. Maybe see you next time whenever that will be.Milly rules

Hi Norm,
I certainly heard it early this morning. One continuous boom from where I live in Holbrooks.
Boom, they all fall down. |

Thanks for the chimneys Philip.
I remember we used to use Webster`s Semi Engineering Bricks.
Also thanks for the period look at the Telegraph generally, particularly interested in the rugby now that Wasps have come to town.
But also had a go at the "famous icons" quiz - got 96% - told me I`m a wow at history! (real reason was I guessed correctly even I can tell the difference between Queen Elizabeth I and Anne Boleyn she`s the headless torso! )
I definitely feel at home on HFC. |
