Hi all. Here's one for you all. Anywhere outside Coventry shows how many miles it is to get here. But where is here. The point of where you have reached Coventry. The point from where the miles are calculated. I believe it must be Broadgate. But someone may know the correct point. I ask this as I remember a programme showing where London's point was. It was near to Charing Cross.
BBC Article Always looking forward to looking at the past.

Never given much thought to this Baz, I thought it was when you had hit the Coventry boundary you were in Coventry. Question |

There must be a fixed point somewhere as boundaries are always changing as areas expand. |

Distances traditionally were measured to the GPO in each city/town centre. Coventry GPO used to be in Hertford street Ric Osborne

It's exactly half a mile (as the crow flies) from the half-mile sign in Spon End to the Godiva statue in Broadgate!

The centre of the ring road system is certainly Broadgate (see google map). But as mentioned the old GPO office was just off that in Hertford St. It must have been and still is around that area. Love little puzzles like this. Always looking forward to looking at the past.

There is a brass stud, mounted in the pavement just outside the door of Ernest Jones the jewellers in the Upper Precinct, declaring that to be "the centre". Can't remember exactly where it's purporting to be the centre of though
Pixrobin, as far as distance goes, we still measure in miles for the same reason our cars display miles on the speedo and we refer to MPH & MPG. |

And we buy petrol/diesel in litres. Is this so it doesn't appear too expensive and hides the real cost of running a car?

Work out how much a gallon of petrol costs these days. When you think how much it cost back then ?
Always looking forward to looking at the past.
