Sorry, Philip, the "stump" in your photo is not the remains of the tall one Your chimney is only just inside the gate on Kingfield Road, whereas the postcard view of the tall one is shown directly in line with Guild Road LINK and click on Birds-Eye View

Thank you for that. If you look at the aerial view from Google, there are two circular structures. I can make out what you have described and I have to agree it appears to be the boiler house chimney. The other rounded structure has a blue cap on it. I will ask at our company dinner a week Tuesday for any info. Best wishes Wave Thumbs up

Wave You're welcome MidlandRed Smile Yes there is a closer on YouTube of the chimney at Little Heath, going down, but a lot of swearing Oh my Lol I thought of the ladies here. Smile If you go to google street maps which Philip should have gone to you can see the other chimney along Kingfield Road fully, the one that was cut down in size on the postcard. I just typed in Cashs Lane and followed it into Kingfield Road, travelled past the chimney, before the new estate, then turned around came back down the road just before the metal tunnel above in the air going across the road turn the curser to the left and you can see full shot from ground level. So you can see the full shape of the bottom tapering off Smile

The chimney that "was cut down in size" is not the chimney "on the post card"

This is the one on Kingfield Road which Philip wasn't sure about but the base and the top tapering up the base looks like the one in the postcard

The base thats shaped like a threepenny bit looks the same, on my photo as Philip says he will ask in a meeting which one is the one in the postcard the tallest, as I recall years ago they saved the one in the postcard and just shortened it, but some here reading think it was completely demolished.

If you stand in the middle of Guild Road and look towards where the tallest chimney was, as in the postcard, you're not looking towards the stump near the gate on Kingfield Road The tallest chimney was clearly in the centre of the Courtaulds main site

Ahrr right thanks for that so it must be the other chimney in Guild Road the furthest one away on the postcard, yet I'm sure they said years ago they were going to just shorten it.

I found this 1939 aerial view of Courtaulds I've blown it up from a small original hence the poor quality, but it does show the tallest chimney in direct line of Guild Road, (but not in the middle of the Courtaulds site as I suggested earlier) but .... no chimney where the stump now is on Kingfield Road (the now demolished railway bridge adjacent to the gate can be seen)

That is bril' Midland Red and shows the three chimneys that I knew about. The picture is facing north. The main office buildings adjacent to Foleshill Rd, together with the present clock tower are there. The building bottom right is what was Lustre Fibres, now Sutherland House. The chimney that is on my photograph which I thought was the original chimney, I cannot see it on this photograph. Is this a job for Miss Marple to go and have a look? Big grin Big grin Also, what can't be seen is the then Foleshill Railway, a standard gauge line that is the far side of the canal. It follows the canal from the Sutherland House building, went under the Foleshill Rd, and continued across Stoney Stanton Rd, to the old ordnance building, then past Alfred Herberts to join the Coventry loop & on to Three Spires Junc. All of that though does not solve what the chimney is that I have in my picture. I do have some old Courtaulds books, but the work being done here at home makes them impossible to get at.
