Coal merchants

Hi Kaga and Heathite I do not remember a Lynne Franklin who you say may have gone to Windmill Road school, as I did. If Lynne lived in Dovedale Avenue then she was certainly within the catchment area for Windmill Road school, however, my memory is nowhere as good as yours and she may even have been in the same class as me!! I am still in contact with a number of old schoolmates, and for my own interest, I will ask them.

Looking back, in the period of coal being the only fuel for power in Coventry. For nearly a hundred years my ancestors and family hauled coal into Coventry by the way of ten or more boats to their wharf at the Coventry Basin, and their offices being in Bishop Street, I feel proud that my family played a small part in the prosperity of the city of those years.

Kaga. Your ancestors didn't play a small part in making Britain great, they played a huge part. It was ordinary folk, just working people, that that made Britain great. Sadly the last decade is turning us into a third world country

Coal Merchants. The one I remember who lived next door to us in Bedlam Lane from the early 30's was William (Bill) Adams.
