Like many of us on this forum I have a great interest in my hometown and its past which sadly has mainly disappeared and my only insight into those past historic views is either in books or via this terrific website of Rob's. As a shift worker I occasionally find myself in 'town' at varying times and whenever possible between chores try to explore any remaining secret spots of our great old town. Thought it might be idea for us all to post here any recommended hidden gems of Coventry to visit that are otherwise passed by by everyday modern life. I did recently find myself wandering around London Road cemetery visiting my grandparents' and great grandparents' graves and also drove through (and was greatly saddened by) what was the Highfield Road stadium. I'm going to walk through the Chain Gardens path as Dutchman mentioned in a recent post (and my Mum confirmed as she worked at Renolds!) and also strolled through Nauls Mill Park whilst waiting for my eldest at Bablake. Are there any old city centre tours held? Hang on maybe, a Forum members walk and pint might be in order??! Post your places to spot here.

Many thanks (again!) for the kind words Neil. One little gem of a place that I don't think I've featured on my website is St. Catherine's Well, in Beaumont Crescent, Coundon. It's well (!) off the beaten track, so not 'discovered' by anyone looking for our usual town centre history. But it's written that this well was once the source of water for Spon End. This Street View link should take you there... Google Street View of St. Catherine's Well

This thread from the early days of the forum looks worthy of repeating, to invite further responses and perhaps arrange a walk (and a pint) when the weather improves Cheers

Midland Red, I was planning on joining one of the Saturday get togethers and following up with a good amble round the historic highlights. I'll admit that the dark, the cold and the potential for rain put me off this morning Oh my

Hi Helen, Wave We had a very lovely sociable breakfast meeting today, with two of our members from down-under. Please feel free to join us on any occasion where you see a planned breakfast, but if you are coming to Coventry anytime, please let us know that too. I like to think that our forum reaches the parts that others might miss. Best wishes to you, me butting in on Midland Red. ps My first interest in our forum started after I joined a summer Saturday early morning cycle tour of our inner city, several years ago. The suggestion of doing a sunshine walk is ace. Our forum guests made the point of it being 86deg from where they are returning to next week. Don't mention cricket though!
