Thank you so very much for finding this photo - the gentleman on the left in the dark suit with the fag in his mouth is Works Superintendent Len Williamson, my grandfather The car appears to be a Daimler Conquest Drophead Coupe from 1955-57 I guess it must have been taken around launch time in 1955, as my grandad retired from Daimler in 1957, having joined them as an apprentice in 1900 at the age of 14! Here's a photo at his retirement

At long last, I have completed adding captions to and sorting the photographs I took at the 2009 Daimler & Lanchester Owners Club International Rally at Ross-on-Wye (these were originally on "fotopic" but that outfit disappeared a couple of years ago Roll eyes so all my photo galleries have had to be rebuilt on "Zenfolio") Oh my There are over 80 photos from the rally, featuring Daimler and Lanchester cars, in this gallery, which I hope some of you will enjoy looking through Thumbs up (click on the thumbnails to view larger images!) Just spotted this old post. The offices of the Daimler in Sandy Lane which later became the EMEB and now Harp Place was built very similar to this with the glass dome over and the offices round the outside and what we called the "well" in the middle. I wonder if they filled it in when they converted to flats. I think the pillars may have been the same as well.

It was robin yes but Daimler had to come up with a revised name as Chrysler already had the name Dart registered as a vehicle name.

It is difficult to imagine what a large area some of the car factories covered in Coventry. This picture of The Daimler Works is from "Coventry and its story". Nearly all of it was destroyed in WW2. The office building remained, which is the building in the centre of the front of the picture on Sandy Lane. This later became the EMEB offices (where I worked for 9 years). I believe when the EMEB moved all the offices down to what is now known as Electric Wharf, Coventry Climax who had their factory next door took the offices over. It is now called Harp Place and is offices and flats. The bus garage was also in Sandy Lane.

Whenever Daimlers are discussed I always think of the iconic 2.5 and 4.5 litre hemi-head v8 engines designed by motor cycle genius Edward Turner. Stunningly engineered, light, compact and powerful, they also had a beautifully melodic note giving the cars they powered huge presence and cachet.

I have just found this picture of a social gathering at Daimler, probably in the 1950`s. My Grandfather worked there from before the first world war until he retired.
