Joan Mulrennan (nee Foster)

Could anybody help with our search for Joan Mulrennan (nee Foster). Joan had a younger sister Sheila Burnham Foster. Joan was born in 1930 to Reginald Foster and Ivy Foster (nee Mills) at Beeston in Nottingham, the birth of both sisters being registered in Basford. We believe that Ivy Foster died in 1945, and Reginald remarried to Christina E Morgan in 1946. Joan married Thomas Joseph Mulrennan in 1951 at The Church of the Sacred Heart, Harefield Road, Coventry. We believe they had two sons, Michael J Mulrennan b. 1951, and Patrick C Mulrennan b.1953. From this point in history, we have been unable to trace Joan Mulrennan, or indeed her sister Sheila. We believe her sister married William Jones in 1952. There is one death record for Joan Mulrennan from 1977 in New York. The birth dates do not match exactly. The death certificate has a birth of 2nd January 1930. The birth certificate has a birth date of 4th January 1930. Mistakes do happen, and the US Social Security Death Index referred us back to the marriage in 1951. Our difficulty is verifying that the Joan who died in 1977 was Joan Foster who we are endeavouring to trace. We did have some help from John Yates in Birmingham, but he has now retired, and we do not have a contact for him. Could anybody in the forum assist with our search. Thank you

Under to US Freedom of Information Act you can apply for the full details from the SSDI. genealogy.about.com/od/online_records/a/ss5_request.htm It will show the date and place of birth plus both parents names, but it does take months to get a reply. familysearch.org records Michael J Mulrennan (born 27 May 1951) as a resident of San Jose, California up to 2004, though at two different addresses. However zabasearch gives you his address and phone number, now in Oregon.

Nothing is quite as frustrating as not being sure if you've got the right record (I've had this problem with my great great grandfather for years). I guess this is the US record you found. I wouldn't have the faintest idea of where to start (apart from the good idea McSporran said - but that sounds a bit slow). Following up from McSporran's familysearch.org record, have you tried to contact Patrick or Michael and see if they can shed some light on their family history (assuming they're related)?
