Ok, now then, now then!
STORY, So please laugh now.
Recently, a No 56 to Nuneaton arrived in Holbrooks early! The driver was resting whilst waiting departure time, when a passenger asked if she could hang on ten minutes, so he could put a bet on.
Anyway, so today, when the bus got to the Bull & Anchor, in Ash green, I politely asked if they could wait twenty minutes, whilst I had half a John Smiths? Only if they could all come & get the bus into the car park.
Ok, so it's not so funny!

A beautiful picture, thank you.
I can't see the drivers near side mirror. Am I missing something?
All new commercial vehicles had to be fitted with near side mirrors from 1956, with all commercials old as well, fitted from 1959. I don't know where PSVs fitted into that scheme of things. Upon starting from a bus-stop, the driver was required to see the rear exit before starting off, no matter what bell signals had been sent.

That's a useful fact that could be of help in dating old pictures. Another is the regulation requiring the fitment of turn signals along the side of PSVs, though I can't recall what year that was.
In this case DKV225 was withdrawn from service in 1956 and subsequently scrapped, hopefully not for the want of a single mirror. |

You are very kind saying that, Mcsporran
Thank you.
I always try & tell it as it is. A lot of what I've learnt has come from my enjoyment of modelling railways & so on. I like models to look right, so it's often when I'm comparing a model to an actual photograph that I notice details.

Hi all,
I'm sure that most of us at least have heard of the travel aid called Sat nav. We set the coordinates for from & where to, the device then gives driving instructions on route.
For those like me using public transport, I have what I call Bus nav which does the same for me, both for buses (& trains if they are running) I've forgotten what trains look like except in Hall Brooks.
Anyway,
I open up my device to Google Maps. It helps if you are logged into google.
I then enter the coordinates as for sat nav, select the mode of travel, bus, train, walking, car, less walking bus & train, in fact everything but aeroplane.
I can then select which is my most convenient bus.
The device then opens up with a detailed map, full notifications of where to alight, where walk to board a connection.
I can now scroll along select if I want audible warnings & notices.
It's easy once you've done it a couple of times. It's far superior to most bus company websites as it includes all transport providers.
That journey is set for the Walsgrave pub from my home. Once I'm at the pub, by selecting the reverse arrows, it sends me back home.
Happy days.
A story,
Last week, I attended an early evening party where I knew I would get a lift home. That's important to me. Old folk & late bus travel isn't on my radar!
Anyway, two of the cars coming, took longer than me getting there. Everything just went right for me, whereas a missed dual carriageway foxed two of the car drivers |

Brings back memories. I think the 18 came over the A45 at the Phantom Coach and then up to the top of Charter Ave. We also had the 18a, that crossed the A45 at Prior Deram Walk and then came up Sherriff Ave to Charter Ave.

I spotted one of the rare triple deckers at the back of that photo of Pool Meadow!
Coventry Corporation purchased 700 Daimlers between the years 1934 and 1974, and they continued to be operated for years afterwards. Consequently most of the city's population would have been chauffeur driven in a Daimler during that period. It wasn't just the Lord Mayor/Mayoress that had that priviledge. |

March 2024 marks the 110th anniversary of Coventry Corporation starting a bus service in the City as an addition to the tramways. Also April 1st will mark 50 years since that service ceased, replaced by Birmingham based WMPTE, the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive. National Express who now run the City buses have painted one bus in the 'heritage' maroon colour scheme to commemorate that occasion. |

During the 1970s I would come to this part of the Coventry Canal often and sometimes take photographs of the buses parked up.
Came past this morning and they have gone!!!
