Haven't got a clue, but maybe somewhere near the Sherbourne in the city centre - there were industrial buildings similar to those around the river - maybe somewhere between the 'Burges' and 'Smithford Street'. Just a wild guess. Or the top of Far Gosford Street? I really haven't got a clue. I'm sure Mr Dutchman will his photographic knowledge will soon be along to tell us... Smile And hopefully with some more pictures of the same area.

Someone sent me this, looks like its printed on tiles and looks like it says my name under the sentence, very odd.

Hi Dean. You mean somebody sent you some photos, with your name included. That is extremely strange, you are not having a senior moment are you? Big grin

Hi Dean, can the source it came from not provide any info? I wondered whether it was around Croft Road, not Croft Road itself but weren't there similar properties behind there? I don't think it was Far Gosford Street - but it wouldn't be the first time I'd been proved wrong Smile

Dean, someone had asked about this picture on the Coventry Kid facebook page today. They have a proper copy of the picture and asked where it was. Someone else had commented that they had found a site with a picture of it on the tiles it is a site that does decorative tiles and this has been done as a panel for the corridor of the stroke and dementia ward of the University Hospital. This is the site. I think someone also saw your name on the tiles and sent it to twitter. It seems to have gone round the houses a bit, I hope someone can answer the original poster's question, where is it? Oh my The original poster had inherited a box of Coventry pictures, lucky person.

It's taken from the walls of Coventry University Hospital outside some of the wards

I am looking at an aerial shot and can see some similar looking buildings at what would be the area at the bottom of Priory Street, probably somewhere long gone, now under the ringroad.

From what I see I think the people in the foreground are too formally dressed for them coming out of a factory. Could they be office workers?

Question

That looks so interesting. I would like the opportunity to see the rest of the tiles. Wave

It's on the Pictures of Coventry site. But it only labels it as 'factory workers'. It is between a picture of a kids party at Queen's Road Baptist Church and a series of pictures of the Daimler works.

I thought one or two of them looked as if they had policemen's helmets on.

I think it was the era of hats. Caps and bowlers. It's one of the things I noticed as I look at some of the older photos. I wonder how much of it was fashion and how much necessity. Few people need hats these days because we can usually pick and chose how much time we spend outdoors in the sun or rain. No door to door transport in those days. It strikes me how difficult it is to pick images for dementia sufferers because each age has its own flavour. My mum quite liked Lowry's pictures because they reminded her of her childhood but dad was brought up in the country and he didn't like Lowry's work at all. For me, although I worked in a factory my memories are of computers and electronics not so much the production side of things. Show me a factory where people are wearing hygiene hair nets and it would mean nothing to me, whereas people wearing hard hats would.

Would it be easier to ID the tall chimney in the distance. The road seems to be going up a slight hill with the building at the top going into another road to the right. I thought Stoke area, Swan Lane.

I got the feeling that it was a crowd going to watch Coventry City rather than leaving a factory. From a photographic point of view, and by studying the perspective, then it looks as if the viewpoint was from a second floor window using what whould have been a standard lens of the camera format used. So, I think we are looking at quite a short road with 3-storey buldings opposite each end of it.
