Hello. I am new to this forum and wondered if any members had any memories of a property called 8 Jobs Lane from the 1950/60s. It was a bungalow with grounds and a grocery shop at the rear. Next door was Reeves butchers I recall, the bungalow was sold in 1966 when my father Charles passed away. The bungalow was sold and demolished and houses were built between Lime Tree Avenue and Tile Hill Lane. Any reply would be appreciated.

Hello, Paul. At that time our family lived across Tile Hill Lane in Templar Avenue. If my mum wanted something on Sunday I used to get it from that bungalow. Due to Sunday trading laws, the lady used to wrap up anything that fell within that remit - washing powder comes to mind. We moved about the time the bungalow was demolished and I remember my dad moaning that he had lost his garage which was in a block at the bottom of the bungalow's garden, presumably there was a connection.

I know the area well but can't recall the property, however, does anyone remember a large house on Job's Lane hidden by a fence with a very large pond in front of it situated between the New Star and Broad Lane, on the opposite side of the road from the New Star, there are houses in a cul de sac built there now where the house used to be ?

I remember Jobs Lane mostly from my pre school days when the woods were called Bluebell woods. We lived in Lime Tree Ave and I was told never to venture in there as a bear lived it there. I actually believed it at the time as did my little friends Doris Collins and another little girl who's name is on the tip of my tongue, but her father used to run a local milk round from the back of their house. There was a little shop on the corner (as on most corners in those days) called Tasker's. I am thinking back to 1942 ish.

Would your bluebell woods be the same woods that I would have known as Limbrick Woods? We used to cut through them to get to Jardine Crescent from Templar Avenue, and later to Woodlands School.
