Yes Foxcote, I think it is the same Morton's, they had a depot on Binley Road, my brother in law used to drive for them, he had a small tanker and he delivered Paraffin, Morton's later became Morton's-BRS...

Yeh guys remember walking down to my aunt's house who lived in Coombe St early in morning and smelling the fires they used to light under the engines of the 2 stroke trucks to thin the oil/diesel down so as to start them up and what a racket when they did!!!!

I recall Skelton's too Foxcote, and not sure how long Pearson's haulage have been going .

Hi Morgana, Yes, my husband used to cut Harry Skelton's hair in the late 1960's and also Johnny Pearson's, we still toot our horn when we see him out and about hauling. We have seen Pearson's on a haulage site advertised about 1910. NormK is the boy to confirm this.

Hi Foxcote. I could not put a date to Pearson's starting up, it seems to me they have been there forever. So I e-mailed them and they say the company was founded in 1931 and they have a photo of a horse and cart with A Pearson on the side dated 1927. And I have to say that the fleet they run at the moment is always well turned out and very tidy. I have loaded them up numerous times in my machine driving days.

Evening NormK, Thanks for that, I did a bit of research today and found a 'truck site' with a Pearson thread and some lovely pictures of the old stuff and the family. I think it was 'Truck net' and then another site. I reckon sometimes when we think we are waving to Johnny Pearson, it's his brother. As you say, always well turned out. We live off the 'Fosse' and they are always about I am glad to say.

Yes think you're right, when it changed to Morton's BRS did they then move to Keresley??

Another thought on Morton's on Binley Road, correct me if I'm wrong but there was a petrol station in front of the main gate (Shell I think) and was run by a Mr Truslove who was my mate's grandad, this was in the days of personal service where you went for petrol and a couple of 'shots', does anyone know what these 'shots' were??

Stevie G. The shots were Redex, it was an upper cylinder lubricant that reduced wear and gave you better performance. I don't think it is necessary now with today's modern fuels.

Very nice find Foxcote. Have you seen "Work In Progress", a British Transport Film, it's on YouTube and shows a fantastic clip of the BRS vehicles in the Highlands. There is also railways and buses on it. 'Work in Progress', British Transport Film

Thanks Baz, I am just going now to have a look at the film. While I was checking that link on YouTube, I spotted another British Transport Film, Coll.15, I think it may be garages, but I am going to look at that as well!
