Does anyone remember a Wal Stevens - my dad worked for him around the end of WWII. Did deliveries to prisoner of war camps.

My wife worked for Tommy Venn, back in 1962/3. Tommy could always be found in the Barras Heath hotel where he liked his pint.
Do you remember Pointers, they were hauliers/removal company from Cook St. They also took in theatricals from the Hippodrome. I know they eventually moved to Tile Hill Lane.

Throughout the fifties I used Red House coaches a number of days a week. They had some sort of contract to racecourses - if there was under a score of people they were the only firm to operate. We had a regular driver (Harry?), everyone connected to racing knew him, and he knew every road in and out to all courses. A great guy and well liked.

On the subject of coaches' condition, to my mind those most keeping up to date with modern style and comfort, were definitely BTS garaged in Broad Street between Stoney Stanton and Foleshill Road.
Wasn't there a pub called the Red House?  And wasn't the RHMS coach business nearby? Seems like an ideal relationship, driving coaches and boozing.....

The Daimler Fleetline was a double decker bus; there were a few single deck versions built but definitely buses. You may be thinking of the Daimler Freeline or the later Daimler Roadliner which were usually coaches. There is an incomplete list of the company vehicles at www.tapatalk.com/groups/cwk205/red-house-coaches-t315-s30.html, including many Maudslay and Ford vehicles beside the Daimlers.

Tommy Venn has been mentioned a few times. Here is a light hearted piece that was put about by his his Drivers at the time:
There was a chap hanging around not really doing anything. Tommy asked what he was doing. When he said nothing Tommy said 'your sacked'. It was pointed out to him that you can't do that, Tommy said why not, the response was he's the milkman waiting for his money.
