Does anybody remember a Jaguar statue that used to be on the side of the Ansty Road. My daughter and I are trying to convince some people raised in Tile Hill. They think we are imaging it. Are we? Does anybody have a photograph? |

Made of stone or could have been white chalk, I think there was an advert on the side wall of the house saying something like 'Jaguar of Coventry'. |

I have reason to remember the Jaguar statue because my father's good friend Bill Smith lived in the house opposite the statue. He ran (along with his brother) the firm of 'Smith and Sons', undertakers. I was always told that their father had operated horse-drawn hearses. Bill was a talented organist.
The statue was ringed by metal railings, and difficult to estimate its size, but I would guess it was fifteen to twenty feet in length, and maybe ten or more feet high. The outstretched paw frequently sported the adornment of a carrier bag or similar!!

It was a larger version of this on a house in Balsall Common.
