Much more embarrassing than that Dreamtime! We used to mime air guitar to the latest Shadows' hits or else make a puppet theatre out of a big cardboard box. The idea of 'hiring' an entertainer would never have occurred to us.

Oh I loved big cardboard boxes Dutchman! I used to cut windows in one and make a little Wendy house and get in it and read my 'annuals'. It never occurred to me to make a puppet theatre from one, although I had about four of those stringed 'Pelham' puppets in yellow boxes.

Yes I did Foxcote, or was simply too young to remember it.

My late partner was Corvelle the Magician. From 1986 until 2007, when he died, he was a brilliant children's entertainer. His patch was mainly Worcestershire and Birmingham. I've tried to upload his photo, with no success. You may be able to see it in my gallery.

A very good question Deano, I went to lots as a youngster and then into my teens. There was a slight difference by way of the games we used to play. Charades, musical chairs, pass the parcel and the apple game, blindman's bluff, Chinese whispers, to name but a few. As we grew older we ventured into kiss chase, spin the bottle and postman's knock. I am sure the ladies will remember some more. The 'works' parties were more organised of course and I believe we have touched on this subject before. Now they were the 'good ol' days'. Cheers and I hope you are still rockin' folks. Happy Big grin Wave

My Dad and Granddad both worked for Humber/Rootes so I went for a number of years to the 'Works' children/s parties and also the Hippodrome pantomimes for which they gave tickets. My Granddad was Foreman at the old Hotchkiss works which in war-time was "The Nuffield Mechanisation." Opposite in Gosford Street was the works canteen. Entertainment was provided and the huge canteen filled with schoolchildren resounded to the compere calling "1,2,3,4 What are we awaiting for?" "2,4,6,8, "What do we appreciate?" then the bellowed response: "Humber Hillman parties!" raised the roof! Lots of sandwiches, jelly and cake, and paper hats.
